Branding
El Patron Mexican Restaurant
El Patron in Anderson, SC is a well establish restaurant since 1998. After years of operation, the owners decided to make updates, renovations and rebranding of the place.
We decided for the rebranding to move from their overall classic look to a more modern and less busy identity. One of my main goals was to make the new identity more recognizable, easy to read, and overall easier to remember. Plus we needed the identity to be able to look and feel natural and consistent in social media, merchandise, menus, uniforms, and more. We also wanted to keep some of the classic Mexican restaurant characteristics that people are use to.
We started with the logo, we changed it from its normal colorful colors to a one color logo, this will make it more recognizable and memorable. We take off the some of the old elements in it to make it less busy and cleaner. We keep the agave plant from the old logo because we found out that was an element that people remember from the old logo. We updated the font but keep some of the old style used on the old logo.
Second we work on some merchandise options, uniforms, menus and website. We wanted to overall identity for feel more consistent, so we created a style sheet using some similar shapes through the overall identity. We started with the use of white to give the designs this clean feeling. The second color I choose was an olive green, which is easy to work with and creates really good contrast against the white. For the third color I went with a red/brown for accents. The three color together where also inspired after the Mexican flag colors, to emphasize that this is a Mexican restaurant.
Finally, we brought it all together by creating mockups and getting the approval of the restaurant. I design the website and created style sheets for their social media, merchandise, uniforms and more.
